Decide how many owners must approve sensitive team changes

Updated on

Your quorum is the number of owner approvals required before a sensitive team change can take effect. It is how your team makes sure no single person can quietly change the rules. Each protected setting has its own threshold, shown as approvals required out of total owners. For example, 2 out of 2 means both owners must approve. You can set the quorum under your team’s “…” menu, in Security, then Quorum.

When you create a team, every threshold starts at all owners (2 of 2 for a two-owner team), so both of you must approve any sensitive change. You can adjust a threshold anywhere from 1 to the total number of owners:

  • Set to 1: any single owner can make that change alone. Faster, but one owner can act without the other’s consent.
  • Set to all owners (for example, 2 of 2): every owner must approve before the change applies. This is the most secure option and the recommended default for a shared team wallet.

Quorum currently covers four areas of your team, with more to come. Each has its own threshold for how many owners must approve a change to it:

  • Quorum Settings: changing the approval thresholds on this screen
  • Transaction Policy: changing how transactions get approved
  • Requestors: adding or removing people who can draft transactions
  • Signers: adding or removing people who can sign on behalf of owners

  1. Step 1From your team home, tap the “…” menu, then under Security section, tap Quorum.
  2. Step 2Choose the area to govern: Quorum Settings, Transaction Policy, Requestors, or Signers.
  3. Step 3Use “−” and “+” to set Required Approvals, then tap Submit.
  4. Step 4

What happens next depends on the current threshold for this area:
If no approval is needed (threshold is 1): your change applies right away.
If approval is needed (threshold is 2): your submission counts as your approval (1 of 2) and goes to the other owner. The request is now partially approved and shows in your Pending Actions with a Pending Others status while you wait.

  5. Step 5The threshold stays unchanged until the other owner approves or rejects. Tap Cancel Request to withdraw it.

  1. Step 1When another owner submits a quorum update request, you’ll get a notification and a Pending Action. The Quorum page itself also shows “Changes are awaiting your review.”
  2. Step 2Open the request to see what’s changing, and when.
  3. Step 3Tap Approve to apply it, or Reject to decline. You can add a reason when rejecting.
  4. Step 4On approval the new threshold takes effect right away. On rejection nothing changes. Either way it’s recorded in your notifications log.

  • Keep sensitive thresholds at all owners for a shared wallet, and lower them only when speed matters more than dual control.
  • If you don’t recognize a pending request, check with the other owner before approving.
